Published guides are optimistic about how long Moroccan cities take. Fes el-Bali is not a half-day medina and Marrakech’s souks will absorb an afternoon on their own. Pick a city, say how long you have and who is travelling, and this shows what genuinely fits, in what order, and what to watch out for once you are there.

How many days do you need in Marrakech?
Two full days covers the essentials comfortably: the medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa, Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa and the souks on day one, then the Saadian Tombs, El Badi and Jardin Majorelle on day two. One day is possible but rushed, and the souks alone can absorb an afternoon.
How long do you need in Fes?
Two days minimum. Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world and a half day barely introduces it. Most visitors underestimate Fes more than any other Moroccan city.
Do you need a guide in the Moroccan medinas?
In Fes, on a first visit, a licensed guide is close to essential: the medina genuinely defeats maps and phone GPS. In Marrakech a guide saves time in the souks but is not required. Rabat, Essaouira and Chefchaouen are all easy to navigate alone. Licensed guides carry an official badge, so ask to see it.
Is Morocco easy to visit with limited mobility?
It varies enormously by city. Rabat, Casablanca and Agadir are largely modern and manageable. Essaouira has a flat grid medina. Fes and Chefchaouen are the hardest: steep, cobbled, stepped and often too narrow for wheels. Choose the city to suit the traveller rather than the other way round.
Which Moroccan city is best with children?
Essaouira and Agadir are the easiest: beaches, space, and a low-pressure atmosphere. Ouarzazate works well because of the film studios. Fes is the most demanding for young children given the crowds, the narrow lanes and the distances on foot.
Is Agadir worth visiting?
It depends what you want. Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake and has no historic medina, so travellers hoping for an old town are consistently disappointed. As a beach and climate destination with excellent seafood and one of the largest markets in Morocco, it delivers.
